The furReal lines explained
furReal names its lines after what the pets do rather than what they are, which is helpful once you know the code and baffling before. Here is the whole family in order of size.
Handfuls
The smallest. Around three and a half inches, each one sitting on a moulded perch or base — a cockatoo, a penguin, a red panda. They react to a stroke along the back with sound and a small movement, and they are the cheapest way into the family.
My Minis and Newborns
My Minis are soft-first: a fist-sized plush kitty, puppy, koala or tiger built to be squeezed. Newborns sit a little larger, with a sound and a touch of head movement. Both travel well and neither has an accessory to lose.
The A-Lots
Everything with a leash. Walk-a-Lots trot when led. Wag-a-Lots add a motorised tail. Poop-a-Lots and Peealots take a plastic treat at one end and produce something at the other, with a scooper or cup included. Modelled on real breeds, right down to the ears.
Two more questions
What is the difference between Handfuls and My Minis?
Handfuls are smaller, sit on a moulded perch and are the most reactive for their size. My Minis are soft-first and built to be squeezed in a fist.
Which furReal line walks on a leash?
The A-Lots: Walk-a-Lots, Wag-a-Lots, Poop-a-Lots and Peealots. Each clips to a detachable leash and moves when the handle is tugged.
Reading furReal interactive pets by name
The name tells you most of it. Walk-a-Lots walks — clip the leash, push it along and the pup wags, barks and walks with the child. Poop-a-Lots does what it says. Feed-and-follow pets eat, then follow. Handfuls fit in one hand. Everything else is plush, sounds and a handful of reactions wrapped around a motor.
What the child does
Touches the head, offers the bowl, brushes the fur, turns the pet over. Each gesture is a motion the toy answers. A tiger roars, a kitty asks to be snuggled, a monkey clings, a panda keeps turning. Watch once and you will see the loop.
What the parent does
Buys batteries, teaches care, and settles the responsibility question for another year. These animals are gentle by design — slow, soft and quiet in sleep mode — which is why they land well at a birthday for kids who love animals more than they are ready for one.
The shelves at a glance
Big interactive pets for lap-sized play, the walking shelf for a pup on a leash, the feeding shelf for pets that eat, and the small shelf for Handfuls and My Minis. Featured across all four: dogs, a Bernedoodle, a silly hippo, a monkey. Pick the size first, the animal second, and the fun takes care of itself.
