A leash, a lead, and a pup that goes where it is pointed

furReal Walk-a-Lots and the rest of the A-Lots

The A-Lots are the walking half of the furReal family. Walk-a-Lots take a lead and trot. Wag-a-Lots add a tail with a mind of its own. Poop-a-Lots eat a treat at one end and hand you a scooper for the other. Peealots do what the name promises, with a cup for the garden.

One leash, four kinds of walk

Every A-Lots pet clips to a detachable leash and moves when the handle is tugged. What changes between them is what happens during the walk: a bark, a wagging tail, a treat that wants eating, or a small mess that wants clearing up.

Children work out the difference in about ten seconds, which is why the line has survived so many years. It is one gesture to learn and four different jokes to find.

Breeds, and why we bother

Schnauzer, Bernedoodle, French Bulldog, Poodle, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Dalmatian — the A-Lots are modelled on real breeds, right down to the ear set and the coat pattern.

A child who asks for a Frenchie wants a Frenchie, not a generic dog. Getting the muzzle shape right is the difference between a pet that is adopted and one that is politely used.

About this shelf

Do the Walk-a-Lots pups walk on carpet?

On short rugs and hard floors, yes. Deep pile carpet stalls the small wheels — the pup will bark and wag on the spot instead of moving forward.

Are the treats and the scooper reusable?

Yes. The treats are moulded plastic, the scooper and cup are plastic too, and the whole kit is meant to be used over and over. Nothing in the box is consumable.

Can the leash come off?

The leash detaches on every A-Lots pet. Off the lead, the pup still barks and wags when it is petted — it just stops walking.

What is the difference between Walk-a-Lots and Wag-a-Lots?

Walk-a-Lots are built around the walk itself. Wag-a-Lots add a motorised tail that keeps going while the pet is held, so they read better as a lap pet than a hallway one.

Reading furReal interactive pets by name

The name tells you most of it. Walk-a-Lots walks — clip the leash, push it along and the pup wags, barks and walks with the child. Poop-a-Lots does what it says. Feed-and-follow pets eat, then follow. Handfuls fit in one hand. Everything else is plush, sounds and a handful of reactions wrapped around a motor.

What the child does

Touches the head, offers the bowl, brushes the fur, turns the pet over. Each gesture is a motion the toy answers. A tiger roars, a kitty asks to be snuggled, a monkey clings, a panda keeps turning. Watch once and you will see the loop.

What the parent does

Buys batteries, teaches care, and settles the responsibility question for another year. These animals are gentle by design — slow, soft and quiet in sleep mode — which is why they land well at a birthday for kids who love animals more than they are ready for one.

The shelves at a glance

Big interactive pets for lap-sized play, the walking shelf for a pup on a leash, the feeding shelf for pets that eat, and the small shelf for Handfuls and My Minis. Featured across all four: dogs, a Bernedoodle, a silly hippo, a monkey. Pick the size first, the animal second, and the fun takes care of itself.
